These fish were then dried, salted, and brought back to Europe. Truly cod was the fish that fed the European masses. Of course there were many other species of fish and those were in due course of time targeted.

Rhode Island also has a long history of fishing. In the 1930's the state docks were constructed at Galilee and the channels dredged to allow large ocean-going fishing vessels to berth there, and it rapidly became one of the largest fishing ports on the east coast. We love being a part of this fishing tradition.
